“The Voice of Youth – N-Dubz are easily as culturally significant now as any guitar band you care to name” – NME
“N-Dubz: The New Britpop” – Observer Music Monthly
The band have spent the past six months writing and producing the new album almost entirely themselves, with a selection of the UK’s hottest talent adding the finishing touches, including Kanye West protégé Mr Hudson, Chipmunk, Wiley and, perhaps unexpectedly pop legend Gary Barlow.
The albums retains the N-Dubz trademark sound, whilst injecting new, electronic influences to the mix. The band’s next single ‘Playing With Fire (Ft. Mr Hudson)’ is perhaps the best example of this, blending Hudson’s dulcet tones with tempo-shifting urban beats. Elsewhere on the album, the group continues to mix gritty underground anthems with perfectly-crafted pop hooks; ‘Na Na’ allows the band to bang heads with rap superstar Wiley, incorporating choppy vocals edits and tough raps, turning the band’s now infamous ‘Na Na Ni’ catchphrase into a pop tour de force. ‘Comfortable’ treads new territory, along the trio to dip their toes into a more subdued terrain, showcasing Tulisa’s sweet vocal and proving the band are no one trick pony. The album also contains a brand new, N-Dubz version of the massive hit ‘Number One’, the band’s collaboration with Tinchy Stryder. Living up to its title, the song remained aloft the official singles chart for three weeks earlier this year and became one of the year’s biggest selling singles.
The album follows the release of ‘I Need You’, the record’s first single, available on November 9th. Already setting the airwaves alight, lyrically the track deals with the search for the perfect partner after a chance sighting, with the chorus name checking social networking site ‘Facebook.’
The last twelve months have been a breakthrough year for N-Dubz. Finding a new home at independent label All Around The World in early 2008, the band issued the smash hit single ‘Ouch’ in October of the same year. With the video receiving over nine million views on YouTube, the song burst from the underground to become the soundtrack to millions of teenagers’ lives. Three further hit singles followed, as well a platinum debut album (which has sold over 500,000 copies to date).
