From teaching English as a foreign language to co-presenting Channel 4’s cult youth programme T4, London-born Jameela Jamil (23) has come a long way in a year. With her natural charm and ease in front of the camera, Jameela is quickly carving out a successful career in broadcast and with her first solo presenting role on Koko Pop, 2010 looks set to cement her reputation as one of the UK’s rising new TV stars.
Bursting onto E4 in late Autumn 2008, Jameela began her presenting career on E4 Music Zones. With her stunning good looks and down to earth personality she immediately caught the attention of both viewers and producers alike, which in turn led to the opportunity to front the Freesports on 4 coverage of the Free Festival.
January 2009 saw Jameela join the T4 family, co-presenting Freshly Squeezed with T4 staples Rick Edwards and Miquita Oliver. From interviewing rock royalty to Hollywood A-listers, her combination of professionalism and a down to earth interviewing technique, has quickly confirmed Jameela as a bona fide new TV star.
Not content to sit on her T4 laurels though, Jameela has a whole host of exciting projects underway for 2009. Sony Ericsson’s Pocket TV lets Jameela and her co-host – Matt Edmondson, editor of controversial gossip site Holy Moly – get extremely up close and personal with their favourite music artists from Chipmunk to JLS and Sean Paul to N-Dubz. Downloadable to your mobile or viewable via YouTube, Pocket TV offers Jameela the artistic licence to ask the questions she wants, in her own inimitable style.
In addition, Jameela has also been signed up to host a brand new fashion show, The Closet, on social networking site Bebo, which will combine her loves for all things fashion with presenting. Known as much for her eclectic yet stylish dress sense as for her slick and chatty presenting style, Jameela is the natural choice to front the new Bebo show.
As well as presenting, Jameela has also just signed up as the new columnist for Company, one of the UK’s leading women’s monthly magazines.
With 2009 shaping up to be a very busy year for the young lady from North West London, it seems certain that Jameela is very much a name to look out for in the future.
